Chen Feiyu, 22 – the son of film director Chen Kaige and actress-producer Chen Hong – has been hailed as one of China's most promising young actors.
However on Monday (Feb 13), Chen Feiyu found himself to be at the centre of unwanted attention when a Chinese paparazzi site released images of a man who looked like him in bed with a Chinese influencer by the name of Shi Yi Lin A.
The pictures were selfies taken by the influencer, that showed half of her face while she rested on the man's bare shoulders who was fast asleep.
According to the site, the star of popular drama Legend Of Awakening and Shi were dating in 2021, and were often seen at a hotel in Changsha.
It outlined that Shi is four years older than Chen, and is a fan who followed him with a fancam.
Soon after the photos made the rounds on the Internet, netizens discovered that Shi also happens to be married.
Hong Kong entertainment portal Jaynestars reported that there was a a leaked audio clip of a manager at Chen's agency claiming that the young actor was set up.
According to the report, the manager claimed that the pair were only intimate once but Shi took photos of them then to threaten Chen to continue seeing her.
The article also mentioned that Shi's new boyfriend started blackmailing Chen for money, and that Chen's mother considered paying him 2mil yuan (RM1.28mil) to get the photos back.
However, the entertainment portal reported that the negotiation fell through and Shi's husband sold the the photos to the tabloid. It is unclear if the "new boyfriend" and the "husband" are the same person in this scenario.
On Monday evening itself, Chen's agency issued a statement to say that the man in the photo is indeed the actor. It further stated that Chen and Shi were both single when they were in a relationship.
Shi also clarified through her management that the breakup between her and Chen was mutual, and that she got married one year later to her current husband.
She neither confirmed nor denied the involvement of her spouse in the photo being leaked.
Now all that's left to be seen is whether this recent leaked photos is going to affect Chen's career from here onward.
