To promote his latest film, Selfiee, Indian superstar Akshay Kumar decided to take selfies with his fans.
But the actor went a step further as he wanted to break the Guinness World Record for taking the most number of selfies in three minutes.
By clicking 184 selfies in three minutes, he broke the existing record of 168 selfies.
The 55-year-old thanked his fans on Instagram for helping him achieve this target.
“Everything that I have achieved so far and where I am at this moment of my life, is due to the unconditional love and support of my fans everywhere.
"This was my way of paying a special tribute to them, of acknowledging how they have stood by me and my work in my entire career.
"With the help of my fans, we have broken the Guinness World Record for Most Selfies in 3 minutes," he wrote, posting a short video of fans taking turns to have a selfie taken with him.
The previous record was held by James Smith. And prior to Smith, US actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson held the record when he took 105 selfies in three minutes at the London premiere of his movie San Andreas in 2015.
Akshay's selfie attempt was held on Feb 22 at Mehboob Studios in Mumbai where 240 fans gathered to get a selfie taken with the star.
According to the Guinness World Records website, Akshay took 209 photos in the stipulated time, but some were disqualified due to blurred faces.
"As per the record’s rules, all selfies must be in focus and sufficiently bright enough so that the person appearing in the picture can be recognised and identified as a unique participant," the site stated.
Akshay's latest movie, Selfiee, tells the story of a misunderstanding between a Bollywood star and his fan after the latter promised to help the actor to get a new driver's license.
