Malaysian-born actress Jacquelin Ch'ng's businessman dad, Bill Ch'ng Chong Poh, dies at 83

Malaysian businessman Datuk Bill Ch'ng Chong Poh, father of actresses Jacquelin and Lisa, passed away from an illness on Tuesday (Feb 28). He was 83.

News of his death was confirmed by the Ch'ng family via an obituary issued to Hong Kong media outlets Wednesday evening.

In the obituary, it is written that Bill passed away at Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong. His body has since been transferred to the Universal Funeral Parlour.

A wake will be held on March 9 followed by a funeral which will take place the next day around 10.30am.

According to China Press, Bill travelled to Hong Kong earlier this year to visit his family. Days after arriving, he felt unwell and was admitted to the hospital.

While hospitalised, his daughters – Jacquelin, Lisa and Chong Si-Hua – took time off work to take care of him. Lisa's boyfriend, Hong Kong actor Mat Yeung, had also been photographed at the hospital.

Bill resigned as the CEO of Malaysia Pacific Corporation (MPCorp) on Dec 2013 and was succeeded by his son, Charles.

His wife, Datin Kong Yuk Chu, is the current vice chairman and executive director of MPCorp. According to The Edge Markets, he and his wife are the largest shareholders in the company.
