Puteri Sarah Liyana Megat reiterated that one of the reasons she is applying for a divorce from husband Syamsul Yusof is because they do not live as husband and wife anymore.
The 37-year-old actress told journalists this at Syariah Lower Court in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday (March 7) after the proceedings of the first mention of her divorce application.
“We haven’t been like husband and wife for a long time. He hasn’t fulfilled his responsibility as a husband for some time now.
“However, he is diligent about providing financial support for his children,” she said.
She also seemed frustrated that Syamsul thinks there is still hope for the two of them to get back together, when she sees none.
Syamsul's lawyer told the court that there was still "sinar" (hope) for the two to reconcile. And Puteri Sarah's lawyer retort was: "The prospect to save the marriage is zero."
Puteri Sarah elaborated to the reporters: “He doesn’t want to let me go because there is still hope. What hope?
“If there is still hope, why didn’t he come and visit me when I was in the hospital a few days ago. He didn’t even ask what was wrong. So, what hope (does he see in us reconciling)?”
According to Puteri Sarah, his appearance in court on Tuesday was the first time she’s seeing Syamsul in person after more than year.
“So really what hope is there. Just let me go. It’s too late if he only realised now that he's going to lose his wife.
“I had hoped to be released from this situation so I can move on. Just let me go.
“Don’t make things worse (between us). You have married someone else, just be with your new wife. I am not angry,” she said, adding that she doesn’t have any feelings towards Syamsul anymore.
As Syamsul, 38, refused to divorce Puteri Sarah, and the latter has no intention of getting back together, the judge had ordered them to appoint a conciliatory committee (JPK) in their divorce case.
Puteri Sarah had appointed her younger sister while Syamsul appointed his male cousin to represent them in the conciliatory committee, The Star reported
If the conciliatory committee could not resolve the marital dispute or found that the marriage could not be saved, the Syariah Court will then appoint a hakam (arbitrator) committee from the close relatives of each side to find a solution.
The court has fixed April 10 for the committee to present its findings.
Puteri Sarah and Syamsul were married on March 8, 2014 and have two children, Shaikul Islam, six, and Sumayyah, four.
On Jan 6, Syamsul married Ira Kazar in Thailand to be his second wife.
