Buying a new car is undeniably an occasion worth celebrating as it signifies a degree of personal achievement.

For local radio announcer DJ Yoon, unfortunately, her celebration was cut short after her new ride was stolen just 78 hours after purchasing it.

Taking to Facebook on Wednesday (March 8), Yoon shared a CCTV footage of the theft that occurred. According to her, the incident happened around the noon of March 6 at SS17 in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

In her post, she revealed that her husband parked the car outside a restaurant they were dining at. As they were about to leave, they discovered to their horror that the car had vanished.

"We immediately requested for the restaurant's CCTV footage. In the footage, we saw a person in black approaching my white MPV.

"It only took a minute or two for the thief to drive away like they owned the car," Yoon said, adding that she had reason to believe the theft was premeditated.

Yoon also mentioned that she and her husband had been planning to install an anti-theft lock and a GPS system this week, but it was unfortunately too late.

"The police officers (handling my case) told me that MPVs often get stolen. After this, I'm considering getting a strong steering wheel lock to prevent a repeat of this incident," she explained.

Yoon also urged everyone to be careful and ensure that the car is well equipped with a sturdy anti-theft system before driving it out and about.

Many netizens have since left comments consoling the radio announcer over the unfortunate incident, with some suspecting that it could have been an inside job due to how fast the thief was able to unlock the car.

Some however, had not been kind – saying that it was a "prank" and that Yoon will be fine as she "has lots of money".

Responding to the comments taking lightly of the situation, Yoon said: "To those who see other people's misfortunes as a joke, I hope you stay healthy and safe."
