Hong Kong actress Manna Chan, 71, recently opened up an eye condition she has been battling for the past three decades.
At a press conference for her latest drama, Have A Meteoric Rise, Chan told Hong Kong media that a failed lasik surgery she underwent 30 years ago left her in a half-blind state.
"It caused my retina to be detached, leaving me with only half my vision. It was a huge blow to me. I cried every single day," she said, adding that the incident was physically and emotionally damaging.
The actress also revealed that her poor vision caused her to not only stumble and fall very often for the past decades, but it also affected her friendship with some people.
"Whenever my friends said 'Hi' to me, I couldn't see them clearly and that made them think that I was being arrogant. It resulted in many misunderstandings," Chan lamented.
Fortunately, she found a doctor who recently helped treat her left eye. She added that she will be having another surgery in the next few days to restore her vision.
"The doctor will be using the latest technology to implant a contact lens into my eyes. Hopefully after this procedure, my vision will be restored and I will no longer need to wear glasses," she said.
Chan has been in the acting scene for almost five decades now. She is known for her roles in A Kindred Spirit, Sergeant Tabloid and Modern Dynasty.
