An outing with family to break fast at The Gardens Mall turned out to be an expensive affair for local singer Tomok.
In a video he shared on Instagram on Sunday (April 2), he detailed that his daughter’s nail polish had accidentally got onto several branded clothing items at one of the fashion stores at The Gardens, resulting in him having to fork out RM5,593 to buy all the ruined clothes.
The 38-year-old said the incident happened when his wife wanted to purchase a pair of jeans from the store and he was waiting with his children.
“An unfortunate thing happened when my child’s nail polish got onto four pair of jeans – each one costs RM1,299,” he said in the video on Instagram.
Besides the jeans, he said the nail polish also got onto four T-shirts – two of them priced of RM499 each and the other two priced at RM449 each.
The father of three – two sons, and a daughter – added that he was taking full responsibility for the incident and would pay for the items as that's the store’s policy.
“I can’t do anything. I can’t leave the store. After discount, I will end up paying RM5,593 (for the eight items). I want to sell these clothes as they are too big for me. None of them are my size.
“Maybe this is a test for me so close to Hari Raya. Anyone who wants to buy these items, can DM me. I will be selling them at a lesser price.”
As promised the next morning, on Monday (April 3), Tomok posted another video for his 2.6 million followers laying out the eight items and stating their respective reduced prices.
The jeans he was selling at RM800, while the T-shirts he had reduced to RM300 and RM250.
Fortunately, luck was on his side this time around as he managed to sell the jeans and T-shirts rather quickly. The Mandrem singer posted this comment: “They are all sold out, guys. Thank you!”
He told mStar – The Star's Malay-language portal – that the items were all snapped up within the hour he posted the video. There was even a buyer from Johor, besides some of his friends who bought it off him, he added.
"I made back a little more than RM3,000. This is after calculating in the shipping fees and such."
Looking at the positive side of things, Tomok said he was lucky that this didn't happen at a shop where the items are even more costly.
"At least I could still afford to pay the amount I incurred last night," he told mStar.
"This has taught me to be more careful. I also wanted to share what happened for the benefit of other parents."
