Malaysian actor Shahronizam Noor lost one of his fingers on his right hand after the knife he was holding while cutting chicken slipped, severing his little finger, reported mStar – The Star's Malay-language portal.
According to his stepson, Daniel Khairi, the incident occurred when they had just finished breaking fast at home on Monday (April 10) evening.
Shahronizam, 51, was rushed to the hospital to get medical attention but his severed finger could not be saved.
“After breaking fast, dad went to the kitchen to cut some chicken for our cat,” Daniel said.
“While cutting the chicken, the knife slipped and hit his little finger. We rushed him to the hospital as the injury was severe.”
The young man added that the medical staff managed to stop the bleeding and bandage the wound. The severed finger was also placed in a freezer box.
According to Daniel, reattachment of the finger couldn't be performed immediately as there was no specialist on duty at that time.
“The medical staff had to get confirmation from the doctor whether the finger can be reattached or not.
“Unfortunately, on Tuesday the specialist told us that dad's finger cannot be reattached since the arteries to his finger have been severed.”
Daniel further told mStar that Shahronizam – who is married to singer Safura Yaacob – is stable but is still at the hospital and under observation.
“Even though he lost his little finger, my father accepts what happened and takes it as a test for this Ramadan.”
