Local director Syamsul Yusof's mother, Datin Patimah Ismail, said she's ready to forgive her son amid the ongoing controversy surrounding his marriage with Puteri Sarah Liyana.

However, she reiterated that she won't stand for him defending his second wife Ira Kazar and her family more than his first wife, Puteri Sarah and her two children.

In an Instagram Story posted Tuesday (April 18) night, Patimah voiced her dissatisfaction over Puteri Sarah and her kids getting neglected due to his newfound romance with Ira.

"As a mother, I can forgive Syamsul. But I cannot accept what he had done to Puteri Sarah and the kids just for the sake of that woman (Ira's) dishonourable family," she said.

Mstar, The Star's Malay-language portal, reported that in a separate post, Patimah said she's grateful despite all that's happened as every single experience was "a test from Allah for our own good".

The post comes hours after Syamsul, 38, and Puteri Sarah, 37, failed to reach an agreement to divorce amicably at the Syariah Lower Court.

According to syariah lawyer Azmi Mohd Rais, representing Syamsul, efforts to resolve the case were unsuccessful after Puteri Sarah amended the draft agreement submitted to her in previous proceedings.

Azmi claimed that the actress made several changes to the draft, among which she wanted to proceed with the civil suit against Ira and her family.

"Puteri Sarah also demanded a high mutaah (compensation) amount and some other assets which my client did not agree to," he said.

Meanwhile, Puteri Sarah refuted those claims. She alleged that the Mat Kilau director had already agreed on the amount for child support in previous proceedings, but suddenly backtracked and asked for a 30% reduction.

"Today, he suddenly asked for a discount, but I'm standing my ground. For the sake of my children, I'm willing to fight.

"Why would I want to withdraw my lawsuit against Ira when it's something I've been fighting for all this time?" she said as quoted by Astro Awani.

Puteri Sarah added that she didn't want the public to lump her divorce case with Syamsul together with her civil suit against Ira as they were "two different cases".

She also said that she won't withdraw the case against Ira even if the proceedings "continued for 1,000 years".

Syamsul and Puteri Sarah tied the knot on March 8, 2014. The pair have two children – Syaikhul, six, and Sumayyah, four.

On Jan 16, Puteri Sarah decided to end her marriage with Syamsul after the filmmaker revealed that he married a second wife in Thailand without her knowledge.

Last July, the actress obtained an injunction order from the court to prevent Ira and those related to her from approaching and harassing her family.

It is understood that the injunction order filed also prohibited Ira from being within 500m from Puteri Sarah, her family, in-laws and anyone related to her.
