Hong Kong actor Jason Wong was the victim of a brutal attack last August after getting slashed in the face by a knife-wielding man in Shenzhen.

In a Weibo post on Wednesday (April 26), Wong said the court discovered that his attacker had a history of abusing methamphetamine and cough syrup – which caused him to experience hallucinations.

The 44-year-old added that his attacker also mistook him for a character he played in the 2017 crime-action movie, Chasing The Dragon.

"(After watching the movie), he mistook me for my character 'Comic', which he believed to be his uncle.

"Since he was unable to differentiate between fiction and reality, he believed I meant his family harm and developed a deep resentment towards me.

"He attacked me with the kitchen knife he bought with the goal of exacting revenge," he wrote.

In his post, Wong urged his friends who were in showbiz to look out for their own safety as they may become victims of "unprovoked attacks" due to their image as public figures.

He also thanked his friends – famed actor Louis Koo, who sent him HK$50,000 (RM28,423) as emergency funds, and retired actor Frankie Ng, who was present at the time of the attack.

"Today, I have recovered from most of my injuries. I will continue to undergo treatment to make a full recovery," he added.

According to reports, Wong received 100 stitches on his face and underwent several surgeries after getting slashed in his face, left hand and waist last year.

The 2012 Mr Asia second runner-up, often called Koo's doppelganger, recalled seeing the skin of his face "peel off" during the attack and that his "eyeballs were nearly chopped off".

Wong's attacker was sentenced to 10 years in prison for intentional homicide on April 3.
