Local actor Fadlan Hazim announced his engagement to Kazakhstan citizen Aiya Mukhamedsalova, 29, recently.
According to Fadlan, the proposal took place last October at his beau's home in Kazakhstan, where he met her family.
Speaking to mStar, The Star's Malay language news portal, the 31-year-old said that staying in Aiya's home country has allowed him to understand their culture better.
He also learned that to prove ones "manliness" and determination to support a family, a man has to undergo a series of vigorous tests.
"Among the things I had to do include walking on a board with nails peeking out, riding a horse and drinking horse milk.
"I also had to climb a mountain in the cold temperature in thin clothing," he said.
The Sayang Tak Dikenang star added that since Aiya's parents could only speak Russian, he had to use a translation app on his phone to get their blessing.
Despite the challenges, Fadlan shared that he was grateful for the experience as he got to learn more about another culture that will "soon become part of my life".
Speaking about his wedding plans, the actor said that there's no definitive date set for the ceremony as he was still busy sorting out documents.
"Since I'm marrying a foreigner, there are documents that need sorting out.
"To me, this is the right time to marry. All my friends have married and I am also getting older," he said.
Fadlan's fiancee has been living in Malaysia for 10 years and is currently working as a software engineer.
