Meghan Markle’s estranged half-sister calls her marriage to Prince Harry “toxic” during a sweeping interview alongside her father and brother – aired just days before King Charles’ coronation on May 6.
“They’re very unhealthy for each other,” Samantha Markle says in the 7NEWS Australia Spotlight special. “It’s a toxic relationship.”
Samantha, who the Duchess has repeatedly claimed she has no relationship with, also blasts her half-sister for falling out of contact with their father, Thomas Markle Sr.
“She would still be a waitress if it weren’t for dad,” she adds.
Samantha’s comments are highlighted in a minute-long trailer for the upcoming interview, which also features videos of Meghan from her childhood – among them one of her being crowned homecoming queen and another of her attending prom.
“The world has never seen Meghan like this,” the narrator says over the never-before-seen clips.
“Treasured memories, home truths and secret tapes are all coming out.”
At another point in the trailer, Thomas Markle Sr. makes an emotional plea to the camera, seemingly begging Meghan to make peace: “How can I fix this?”
A retired Hollywood lighting director, Markle Sr. suffered a stroke last year and worries he hasn’t got much time left to make things right with his famous daughter.
Markle’s family drama first became public knowledge in 2018, when her father made headlines for staging paparazzi photos in the days before her wedding to Prince Harry.
He was set to walk her down the aisle before the scandal broke.
Instead, Doria Ragland, Markle’s mother, ended up attending the ceremony alone while King Charles escorted the Suits alum down the aisle.
In the years since, Meghan and her family have been at war, both through the media and in court.
Just last month, Samantha lost a defamation lawsuit filed against her half-sister. It alleged the former actress made “demonstrably false and malicious statements” about her sibling in a 2021 CBS interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The suit further alleged Meghan spread defamatory statements about 58-year-old Samantha to the authors of a New York Times bestselling book about Meghan, Finding Freedom, which included a chapter titled A Problem Like Samantha.
Despite the drama, Markle’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr, said he and his family have no intention of standing down.
“We’re not going to go away,” he vowed. “This is going to change everything.”
Prince Harry previously said he would be attending the festivities alone while Meghan stays home in California to celebrate Prince Archie’s fourth birthday. – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
