It looks like there are still more marital issues to be sorted out between actor-director Syamsul Yusof and his first wife, actress Puteri Sarah Liyana.
The couple, who said they’d go ahead with the divorce after a private meeting, failed to reach an agreement in court on April 18.
But late last month (April), news that Syamsul had uttered talak (proclamation of divorce) to Puteri Sarah was going around the Internet.
But according to Puteri Sarah’s lawyer, he is still awaiting official confirmation on this matter.
Lawyer Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader said he did not receive any instructions from his client, Puteri Sarah, following the claim that Syamsul had uttered the talak.
According to Akberdin, he learned of the news through social media.
“As of now, we have not received any instruction from the client. We cannot confirm the authenticity of this claim,” he told media when met at the Gombak Timur Syariah Lower Court, in Selangor, on Monday (May 8).
“If this really happened, then it should be presented in court with the divorce case.”
Akberdin also said that he does know anything about Syamsul filing an injunction against Puteri Sarah to not say anything regarding their marriage outside of court.
“We have heard about this too. We have to wait and see. We cannot release any statements without receiving any official documents.”
For the record, Syamsul and Puteri Sarah failed to reach divorce agreement on April 18 as she didn’t agree to Syamsul's request to reduce child support by 30% and for her to drop her legal action against Ira Kazar, Syamsul’s second wife.
The court had set May 25 for a follow-up.
Syamsul and Puteri Sarah were married on March 8, 2014 and have two children, Syaikhul Islam, six, and Sumayyah, four.
Rumours of a marital rift surfaced four years ago.
It became a reality when, in January, Syamsul revealed his relationship with Ira Kazar and admitted he had married her in Thailand.
Puteri Sarah then filed for divorce from Syamsul on Jan 16.
