Spending Mothers Day without a mum can be painful, and it's much harder when there are still words left unsaid.
On May 13, a day before we honour our mums, Taiwanese television host Li Jing penned an emotional letter on Facebook saying she regrets putting her mother on life support for three years.
Recalling the pain and suffering her mum went through then, Li said: "Mothers Day will (forever pain) my heart. Because of my selfishness and (unwillingness to let you go), I asked the doctor to help prolong your life for three years."
The 60-year-old shared that due to concerns over her mum possibly pulling out her nasogastric tubes, the doctor decided to tie her hands.
"With the help of the doctor, I thought you would recover, but I was wrong, really wrong. You could only listen to the (sounds of the) ventilator.
"You couldn't eat, talk, move or get up. You couldn't cry out in pain. For three years, you had to lay in the ICU, most of the time with your hands tied," she said.
Li, whose real name is Regine Wu, added that she often dreamed of her mum and would wake up crying thinking about the pain she had to go through.
"I see your eyes and how they look (into mine) so helplessly. Is it the look of pain? Is it the look of love? Or is it the look of complaint? I still don't know," she said.
Li then ended her post with an apology to her mum, begging her for forgiveness and to be her mum again in the next life.
"Mum, I was wrong. I beg for your forgiveness in this life, and I will never forgive myself in the next life.
"In the next life, please be my mum again. I will make it up to you ...
"It's Mothers Day, and I really miss you. Be my mum again because I love you so much," she wrote.
