Hong Kong actress Sheila Chan recently revealed that the woman who she believed to be her mum for the past five decades is not her biological parent.
On May 11, Chan told Hong Kong publication Sky Post that a few months before her mum died, she admitted that she was not Chan's biological mother.
Assuming her mum was experiencing hallucinations due to her dementia, the 53-year-old simply brushed away the remark.
After going for a DNA test, however, Chan discovered to her surprise that the both of them weren't blood-related.
Sharing more about the matter, the Thanks For Your Love star said she learned from her mum that she was actually abandoned when she was three months old, and it was this very woman who took her in.
Despite knowing the truth after over five decades, Chan said she felt grateful towards her mum who raised her as if she was her own biological daughter.
The actress added that it must have been difficult for her mum to carry this secret for such a long time, and she felt at peace knowing she was able to say her last words before her mum died.
"You will forever be my favourite mum. No one can replace you. If there's an afterlife, I hope I can be your daughter once more," she said as quoted by China Press.
Chan's mother passed away last June. She was 95 years old.
