Global video streaming service Prime Video is expanding its Malaysian content.
Not only will there be more local films showcased on the platform, there will also be Malaysian Amazon Originals, set to be launched later this year.
David Simonsen, director of Prime Video, Southeast Asia, said in a press statement: "We are delighted to bring Malaysian films and shows to not just audiences in Malaysia, but customers across the region and worldwide.
"We’re always on the lookout to work with the best talent to create entertaining content that is relevant to our local audience’s diverse tastes.”
Some of the recent Malaysian blockbusters to be made available on Prime Video are Abang Long Fadil 3 and Juang (streaming now); Coast Guard Malaysia: Ops Helang (June 8), as well as Imaginur (July 13), a romance and sci-fi film starring Beto Kusyairy and Diana Danielle.
Older titles such as KL Gangster, Misteri Dilaila, Leftenan Adnan, Kolumpo, Suatu Ketika, Munafik, Upin & Ipin films and BoBoiBoy movies are also available to Prime Video subscribers.
Other films to look forward to are Woo Ming Jin’s Stone Turtle (July 27), Iban movie Headhunter (June 29) and drama-thriller series Entitled (launching later this year).
Meanwhile, the first Malaysian Amazon Original series is That Cover Girl, starring Siti Saleha, Hisyam Hamid, Alicia Amin and Aiman Hakim.
It centres around a woman doing her best to ensure her fashion business stays in business.
Series creator Abid Hussain said in a press statement: "We’re proud to bring our original Malaysian story on strong and inspiring female characters to audiences around the world on Prime Video.
"Set against the backdrop of Paris and Kuala Lumpur, we want to inspire our audiences across the world on an emotional roller-coaster journey with our Malaysian heroine, as she discovers her passion, heartbreak and self-worth.”
The second Amazon Original is a film titled Budak Flat, starring Pablo Amirul, Zahiril Adzim, Nabila Huda, Aaron Aziz, Balan Kash and Yung Raja. It is produced by Skop Production, which has churned out multiple hits like Munafik and Abang Long Fadil.
Budak Flat producer Shamin Yusof said in a press statement: "The film explores the rivalry between two criminal brothers who find their relationship tested to a deadly conclusion when a murder triggers a gang war in their flat.
“It’s a uniquely Malaysian action film that we hope will find audiences across the globe on Prime Video.”
