'Everwood' actor Treat Williams dies at 71 in motorcycle accident

Actor Treat Williams died Monday (June 12) after being involved in a motorcycle accident. He was 71.

The news of his death was confirmed by his agent Barry McPherson to People in a statement.

"He was killed this afternoon. He was making a left or a right (and) a car cut him off," McPherson said.

"I'm just devastated. He was the nicest guy. He was so talented.

"He was an actor's actor. Filmmakers loved him. He's been the heart of Hollywood since the late 1970s.

“He was really proud of his performance this year. He's been so happy with the work that I got him. He's had a balanced career."

Williams made an impression as an actor as the star of the 1979 film version of the musical Hair, for which he received Golden Globe nomination. His acting debut was in the 1975 film Deadly Hero.

Since then he had accumulated more than 120 roles to his name on television and in films.

One of his most notable roles is in the series Everwood, where he played America’s iconic TV dad for four seasons, earning him two Screen Actors Guild award nomination for outstanding performance by a male actor in a drama series.

He also played a dad in Chicago Fire and White Collar. Other series Williams had appeared in include Brothers & Sisters, Heartland and Blue Bloods.

Williams is survived by his wife, Pam Van Sant, and their children, Gil and Elinor Williams.
