Local filmmaker Syamsul Yusof has promised not to neglect his responsibilities towards his two children – Syaikhul Islam, six, and Sumayyah, four – even though his marriage with Puteri Sarah is over.
During divorce proceedings at the Kuala Lumpur Lower Syariah Court on Wednesday (June 14), Syamsul agreed to pay RM6,000 monthly in child support starting this July.
The Mat Kilau director will also pay an insurance amount of RM3,500 and a vacation fee of RM5,000 annually to each of his children.
“I will bear all the needs and expenses of my children. Everything is OK and good,” the 39-year-old said.
Aside from providing financial support for his children, Syamsul has to pay RM15,000 to Puteri Sarah as nafkah iddah (a three-month payment to the wife after the husband says he is divorcing her).
According to mStar, The Star's Malay language news portal, Syamsul divorced Puteri Sarah with a single talak in front of Syarie Judge Akmalludin Ilyas in a closed session at around 12.25pm on Wednesday.
The court allowed Puteri Sarah’s application for divorce under Section 47 of the Islamic Family Law (Federal Territories) Act 1984.
The actress was represented by Syarie lawyer Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader whereas Syamsul was represented by Syarie lawyer Azmi Mohd Rais.
Speaking to local press after proceedings ended, Puteri Sarah said she felt grateful now that their marital conflict has ended.
“Alhamdulillah, everything is settled now. (Syamsul) and I agreed to meet yesterday (June 12) to resolve everything,” the 37-year-old said briefly.
Meanwhile, Syamsul regarded this separation as one of life’s many tests and chose to part ways without holding any grudges.
“Alhamdulillah, (we) got a good ending. Sarah can move on with her life and so will I. We always pray (for each other well-being).
“Although we have separated, we don’t hold any grudges. Once again, this is for the sake of our children,” he said.
Syamsul and Puteri Sarah tied the knot on March 8, 2014.
On Jan 16, Puteri Sarah filed for divorce from Syamsul on the grounds that there was no more understanding and prolonged shiqaq (disagreement) between them.
The divorce was filed 10 days after Syamsul announced on Jan 6 that he had married another woman, Ira Kazar, in Thailand.
