British rock band Coldplay has added an unprecedented fifth show at the National Stadium in Singapore due to overwhelming response.
In addition to its original concert dates on Jan 23, 24, 26 and 27, Coldplay will be staging a Jan 30 show next year, making it the first act to play five nights at the venue.
According to concert promoter Live Nation, the Grammy-winning band successfully sold more than 200,000 tickets to its four shows during the pre-sales period on Monday (June 19).
“The band also broke Singapore’s record for most tickets sold by an artiste in a single day,” added Live Nation in a statement.
Pre-sale tickets for all four shows – which went on sale at 10am on Monday – sold out after five hours, The Straits Times reported.
The publication also reported that many social media users have complained of the long virtual queues to enter the Ticketmaster website.
Some have also complained that they were sent to the back of the online queue after getting kicked out of the ticket selection page upon refreshing it.
General sales will begin on Tuesday (June 20). Tickets are priced from S$68 (RM234) onwards and will be available at 2pm via www.ticketmaster.sg.
To make the shows more accessible to fans, Coldplay have also confirmed it will release a limited number of Infinity Tickets – priced at around US$20 (RM92) each – at a later date.
The Infinity Tickets will only be sold in pairs and are restricted to a maximum of two tickets per buyer.
Tickets to Coldplay’s concerts in Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta in November 2023 sold out quickly after going on sale in May.
However, many fans were left dissatisfied after scalpers re-sold tickets on unauthorised websites at exorbitant prices.
