Harry Styles was hit in the face with an object while performing Saturday (July 8) night in Vienna.
Styles, 29, was walking along the stage when he was struck by the unclear object, according to videos posted online.
The pop star immediately stopped, bent over and grabbed his face in obvious pain. He then slowly ascended a few stairs and apparently walked backstage.
Styles recovered and finished the concert, according to fan accounts online. He did not immediately comment on the incident Sunday, but remained scheduled to conclude the globetrotting tour with two shows in Spain, one in Portugal and one in Italy.
The One Direction veteran is the latest music star to be struck with an object while performing on stage. Styles has also dealt with similar assaults in the past.
On June 18, a fan hit Bebe Rexha in the face with a phone while she was performing in Manhattan. Rexha, 33, suffered an injury to her eye but recovered and played two nights later in Philadelphia.
Nicolas Malvagna, 27, of Manalapan, New Jersey, was arrested and charged with felony assault. According to police, he admitted he thought it “would be funny” to throw the phone.
The same night Rexha returned the stage, fellow pop star Ava Max was attacked and scratched while closing a show in Los Angeles.
A few days later, Kelsea Ballerini was struck in the face by an object hurled from the crowd at a show in Boise, Idaho, briefly stopping the performance.
And one week after that, Drake was struck in the arm by a cellphone chucked by a fan at Chicago’s United Center on the first night of his new tour. Drake continued performing right through the impact, apparently unfazed. – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
