Malaysian singer Nadeera Zaini recently opened up about the hate comments she received while competing in the fifth season of singing competition show, Big Stage.
During the finale of the show, Nadeera revealed that she almost quit the competition after receiving many comments about not being beautiful enough.
“I tried my best to stop reading online comments after getting severely criticised for my appearance during the third week of Big Stage.
“But when I was scrolling through my photos on the phone, I suddenly received a notification. Someone said that I looked like a pig.
“I felt upset and immediately burst into tears. I really can’t accept it when people joke or shame someone for their looks because these are all Allah’s creations,” the 30-year-old told local media.
Nadeera added that the negative remarks not only affected her but her family members too.
“During a video call, my parents and aunt cried while asking me why so many people were insulting me.
“I told them to be patient because this was just the beginning of the (challenges) as I continue my journey as an artiste,” she said.
It was a good thing Nadeera persevered and continued in the competition, as she was crowned the champion of Big Stage on July 9.
The talented singer took home a prize money of RM100,000 and a trophy.
Meanwhile, one of the judges in the competition, local composer Ajai, consoled Nadeera with some words of encouragement.
“I feel like (smacking) whoever said you aren’t beautiful. Don’t ever underestimate ourselves. Everything that’s given by Allah has its advantages,” he said.
