Hong Kong actor Andy Lau has been in show business for over four decades and is still as popular as ever.
Lau, who entered the entertainment scene as an actor in 1981, recently attended an event where he shared some advice on how to deal with self-doubt.
According to the Infernal Affairs star, being an actor was difficult as he had to face many people who had doubts in him.
Nevertheless, the 61-year-old stressed that it’s important to persevere and continue working hard.
“If someone approves of you, there’s bound to be someone who won’t. There’s skeptical (people) in (every) market, and (it’s easy) to worry about not meeting their expectations, but you shouldn’t worry about what others think,” he said.
The Heavenly King added that it is important for one to believe in themselves if they wish to silence the doubtful voices in their minds.
“You need to believe that you are capable. Don’t overestimate or underestimate yourself. Regardless of whether you succeed or fail, just go for it. Hard work is essential.
“Although hard work doesn’t necessarily guarantee success, I believe that every successful person has definitely put in the effort,” he said.
During the event, Lau also talked about having anxiety despite being in the entertainment industry for so long.
The actor shared that even though he is open to trying new roles and taking on a good challenge, he still had anxiety while filming his new movie, Shock Wave 3.
However, he deals with it by exercising.
“Anxiety is something everyone has, but don’t worry. It’s natural that everything has its own trajectory,” he said, adding it is fine to take a break when things get too overwhelming.
