Malaysian singer Aina Abdul who was criticised for her extravagant outfit at a recent award ceremony shared her thoughts on the matter via InstaStory on Monday (July 24).
The 30-year-old started by saying that she hardly posts anything personal on Instagram as she sees the social media as an outlet for work.
“But today I felt compelled to write something,” she said.
"Yes, I saw it all and read it all – every criticism and advice that were said, I contemplated.
“Thank you for caring, for the good advices, the encouraging messages and comments. I really appreciate them all.
“Alhamdulillah, I will strive to be better after this OK?
According to reports by Malay media, Aina had worn a puffed up "blazer" in bright red, measuring 120cm wide, when walking the red carpet at the 35th Anugerah Bintang Popular awards.
Once the "blazer" was detached, her outfit featured a large red rose at the chest with a long trailing gown.
But soon after the event, a preacher was said to have criticised appearances of some celebrities who wear “strange or weird” clothing to events.
According to a report by mStar – The Star’s Malay-language portal – the preacher stated such unusual and excessive clothing is actually prohibited in Islam, even if it covers the body, as such attire attracts attention.
Although the preacher did not name any particular artiste, the majority of netizens assumed that the admonition was directed at Aina, who has always showcased daring fashion choices throughout her career.
Some fans commented on the singer's Instagram that they hoped Aina would realise that “excessive appearances” are inappropriate.
And others praised the singer for being adventurous in her attires with one fan writing: "Dah lama x tengok artis pakai outfit all out since Lady Gaga. Keep the art alive Aina!!. (It's been a long time since I saw an artiste wearing an all-out outfit like Lady Gaga. Keep the art alive, Aina!!)"
