Taiwanese-Canadian actress Karena Lam, who’s based in Hong Kong, announced today (July 28) that she will be ending her marriage with filmmaker Yuen Kim Wai.
In a statement on social media, Lam, 44, wrote: "After twelve years of marriage, we have come to the loving conclusion that our marriage relationship has come to an end.
"We did not come to this decision lightly and we are working to get through this."
Despite their split, Lam assured that Yuen, 57, will always be family as they are parents first and foremost to their two children.
"Our children are our priority and we will continue to work in partnership to raise them. We genuinely wish the best for each other going forward," she wrote.
Lam then ended her post by asking everyone to respect their privacy at this difficult time and thanked family and friends for supporting and loving them.
Lam and Yuen married in 2010 and have two daughters – Kaya and Sofie.
According to reports, the couple had financial disputes and often argued over their parenting styles and personality clashes.
Lam, who made her acting debut in the 1996 thriller Sing Kei Hok Yeuk Kui, is the recipient of three Golden Horse Awards.
She also took the starring role in her ex-husband’s two films, Heaven In The Dark (2016) and Legally Declared Dead (2020).
