Hong Kong actor Moses Chan was paid 168,000 yuan (RM106,363) to sing at a village in China, HK01 reported.

According to the news portal, Chan, 52, performed for about 15 minutes and sang two songs – Love Me, Don't Go and When You Say Nothing At All.

The TVB star, smartly dressed in a white suit, drew enthusiastic response from audiences who then took to Chinese social media platforms – Weibo and Xiaohongshu – to share photos from the event in Foshan.

One netizen, who was present at the scene, said they were rendered starstruck when they saw Chan "in front of the doorstep".

Others also said that Chan was especially popular among older women, who were very lively when the actor made his appearance.

Of his performance at the event, the Heart Of Greed star told Hong Kong's Ming Pao: "I am just a performer. I don't often sing songs from my own (dramas and films), but I enjoy singing songs from other artistes."

In another update, it was reported in 2019 that Chan had become the highest paid TVB actor after renewing his contract for HK$30mil (RM17.4mil).

This excludes the income he makes from endorsement deals and other job offers.

Speaking to HK01, Chan neither confirmed nor denied the rumour. Instead, he told the news outlet that happiness mattered more than the money.

"Not everything is about money. How much you make doesn’t matter if you're unhappy," the actor said.
