Priscilla Presley is breaking her silence surrounding the recent death of her daughter, Lisa Marie Presley.
The actress and businesswoman recalled the final moments she saw her eldest child alive, and admitted to noticing something was off.
Lisa Marie died on Jan 12 at the age of 54. In July, her cause of death was revealed to be complications resulting from a bowel obstruction.
“I did know there was something not right,” Priscilla revealed to filmmaker Sofia Coppola for The Hollywood Reporter’s latest cover story.
The Lost In Translation director adapted the script from Priscilla’s 1985 memoir, Elvis And Me, for her new movie Priscilla, premiering at the 80th Venice Film Festival next month.
The last time Priscilla said she saw her only daughter alive was at Los Angeles’ Chateau Marmont hotel for a celebration of Austin Butler winning the Golden Globe Award for his breakout role as Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s acclaimed biopic.
“It was fun, a fun memory,” she recalled. “Then we sat down and ordered drinks, and she says, ‘Mum, my stomach hurts really bad.’ We immediately got up and left.”
Two days later, her daughter’s ex-husband Danny Keough called and told her to rush to the hospital – but it was too late by the time she arrived.
“I got right in the car, but she was already gone,” she said. “I still can’t believe it. I don’t wish this on any mother.” – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
