Malaysian artiste Liza Hanim has schooled a netizen who made offensive comments about her physical appearance, Harian Metro reported.
According to the daily, a social media user recently claimed that the reason Liza, 43, was “falling behind” is because she lacks the looks despite having good vocal skills.
In a screenshot shared by the singer on her Instagram account on Monday (Sept 25), the netizen can be seen making offensive remarks about Liza’s skin and nose.
The netizen in question also compared Liza’s appearance to that of Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza, claiming it was the reason behind Siti’s success.
Feeling the need to address the issue, Liza penned a lengthy statement in which she expressed gratitude for what God has blessed her with and reiterated that she doesn’t care about what others think as long as she has her family’s support.
“Manners are more important than looks. I’m not affected by these criticisms but I think that this culture has gone too far.
“I sometimes wonder what the person writing these kinds of things look like,” she wrote, adding that the netizen was inconsiderate and insensitive.
Liza then concluded her post with a message urging everyone who has received similar comments before to “stay strong” and to do whatever makes them happy.
“We (need to) continuously be grateful to Allah for everything we have been blessed with. #ImNotPrettyButImHappy,” she wrote.
Liza’s post has amassed over 5,500 likes at press time. It also received the support of local celebrities – including singers Salamiah Hassan and Aisha Retno, actress Azira Shafinaz, and Siti herself.
“The comments made by (the netizen) clearly shows their unkind personality. Never touch on someone’s physical appearance because no one is perfect.
“I’m appalled by netizens who think they are good enough to judge but have instead shown how silly they are,” Siti wrote, adding that Liza has her full support.
