The Star's Malay language portal – mStar – has proven its strength as the No.1 entertainment and lifestyle portal in Malaysia, boasting an average page views of 20 million, and 8 million unique visitors per month.

On Tuesday (Sept 26), the popular portal celebrated its 18th anniversary in a grand fashion at Menara Star, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, with local artistes, deejays and social media influencers in attendance.

Also present were Esther Ng, Star Media Group chief content officer, and Niezam Abdullah, mStar's editor-in-chief.

There were performances from artistes such as Zaiton Sameon – who sang her 1980s hit Menaruh Harapan – Ibnor Riza, Ruhil Amani Husin and Haiza.

TV host and popular personality, Datuk Aznil Nawawi – who has become an icon thanks to his years of experience in the media and entertainment industry – graciously signed a symbolic plaque to commemorate mStar's 18th anniversary.

During the event too, mStar launched mStar Baek – a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, in collaboration with sponsor Noir Health & Beauty.

This programme is meant to provide assistance to those in need, particularly artistes facing hardship.

As reported by mStar, Niezam said: “The introduction of mStar Baek came about after seeing many artistes facing challenges in life. This group seemed to have been neglected even though they had contributed to society through their artistic talents.

“Therefore, mStar, as an entertainment portal, feels responsible for assisting them through a corporate social responsibility project.”

He added: "I've learned a lot from meeting these artistes. In life, we can't always think about staying on top."

The mStar Baek programme, consisting of 10 episodes, will be available on the mStar portal and all its social media platforms, including YouTube and Facebook starting Oct 5.

mStar with Noir Health & Beauty founder – Madammu – provided support to 10 selected celebrities in the form of cash and essential goods contributions.

Among the recipients are Zaiton, Mak Jah, Bad (Indigo), Mak Wan Latah, Ibnor, Roy (Ratnaku), Wan Maimunah, Alina Hassan and Izwan Fitri.

Niezam said: "We believe that many more artistes are facing various life challenges, and we hope the mStar Baek programme can serve as a platform to assist them, with the cooperation of sponsors."

In addition to Noir's donation, the celebrities also received basic necessities from Bernas and health products from Eskayvie.
