Angelina Jolie is finally speaking about the aftermath of her tumultuous divorce from Brad Pitt.

The Girl, Interrupted Oscar winner, 48, admitted in Vogue’s latest cover story that she and her brood are “still finding our footing” following the demise of her brief but widely publicised marriage to Pitt. This month marks seven years since Jolie filed for divorce from the 59-year-old Academy Award winner.

“I feel a bit down these days. I don’t feel like I’ve been myself for a decade, in a way, which I don’t want to get into,” Jolie said, noting she cut back on acting roles “seven years ago, only taking jobs that didn’t require long shoots. We had a lot of healing to do.”

Jolie admitted that going “through something where (she) was hurt” informed the way she presented herself on the outside, saying she aimed to channel a “tougher,” “stronger” look.

“But was I strong enough to be soft? At the time, no. I felt vulnerable,” she said. “Now I wonder if I don’t know what my style is because I’m still understanding who I am at 48. I guess I’m in transition as a person.”

The Maleficent star went on to share that she’s “hoping to change many aspects of (her) life,” for which her fashion studio, Atelier Jolie, has been a “therapeutic” new endeavour.

The skill-based “cultural centre-meets-design workshop” – as Vogue described it – launches this fall and will “bring together a diverse team, including apprenticeships for refugees and other talented, underappreciated groups,” according to the website.

Jolie’s remarks come after she and Pitt agreed in late July to settle out of court the US$350mil (RM1.6bil) clash over their French winery.

The so-called Brangelina romance famously kicked off after the 2004 meeting of Jolie and Pitt, then married to Jennifer Aniston, on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. In early 2005, Pitt and the Friends star announced their split and divorced before the year was out.

By early 2006, Jolie was adding Pitt’s surname to that of her first two adopted children, Maddox and Zahara. The couple welcomed Shiloh, their first biological child, that spring, and adopted son Pax the following year. Their twins, Knox and Vivienne, were born in the summer of 2008.

After more than six years together, the couple confirmed their engagement in April 2012 and tied the knot at their Miraval estate in 2014.

Jolie filed for divorce two years later, after Pitt allegedly got drunk and abused her and their children on a plane. It took until 2019 for them to be declared legally single. – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
