A woman who had gone through a breakup recently received a heartwarming surprise when Chinese-Canadian singer Kelly Yu serenaded her at a hotpot restaurant in China.

In a viral five-minute video on Weibo, the restaurant’s staff can be seen waving balloons in the air while the woman’s friends comforted her by singing Yu’s song, Decency.

Things took an unexpected turn when Yu herself approached their table and asked who had just experienced a breakup to which the woman’s friends excitedly gestured to her.

Many diners were visibly surprised by the singer’s presence and cheered enthusiastically for her. Some also whipped out their phones to record her.

“This is a little awkward but I was actually sitting at the next table when I heard someone singing (my) song,” the 33-year-old said.

Yu then asked the woman if she had listened to her new song Why Bother, which she felt was a more fitting post-breakup track.

“I will sing two lines for you and after that, (the breakup) is officially over, OK?” Yu said and proceeded to sing.

After she was done performing, Yu told the woman to carry on eating and to not be upset. The singer also took a few photos with the woman and her friends before heading off to continue her meal.

At press time, the clip on Weibo had over four million views and 50,700 likes and counting.

Many netizens left comments under the video, talking about how the young woman was very lucky to meet Yu in person. Some also joked that they wanted a breakup so the singer would serenade them.
