Louis Koo may be a highly established celebrity in the entertainment industry but for those who didn't grow up watching Hong Kong films and dramas, he may be unfamiliar.
Recently, the owner of a hotpot restaurant in Kuala Lumpur posted on social media platform Xiaohongshu, that her Gen Z staffers had informed her about a "table of VIP guests" who spent over RM2,000 on their meal the night before.
Curious to know who would fork out such a whopping sum, the employer skimmed through the CCTV footage where she discovered – to her surprise – that her younger colleagues were referring to Koo, 52.
The Hong Kong star – who dined at the KL restaurant over the weekend – was joined by fellow HK actors Raymond Wong, Chrissie Chau and Cheung Siu Fai. They are currently in the country to film their new movie, Behind The Shadows.
Sharing a photo of Koo from that evening, the restaurant's owner wrote: "Isn't this Louis Koo? Why is it that those born after the year 2000 can't recognise (him)? Is there really a generational gap between us?"
A handful of netizens left comments under the post, saying that most youngsters these days are more up to date with K-pop stars and social media influencers.
Several younger individuals also admitted that they wouldn't be able to identify the actor if it weren't for their parents introducing them to Koo's previous projects.
Holding more than 100 credits to his name, Koo has enjoyed a highly successful showbiz career since signing to TVB in 1993.
He gained recognition for his performance in the 1995 drama The Condor Heroes 95 and has since starred in popular shows like Detective Investigation Files IV (1999), Drug War (2012), and The White Storm (2013).
In 2018, Koo won the Best Actor prize at the 37th Hong Kong Film Awards, 12th Asian Film Awards and 12th Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild Award for his stellar performance in the 2017 action flick, Paradox.
He was honoured with the Extraordinary Star Asia Award at the New York Asian Film Festival earlier in July for his exceptional contribution to Asian cinema.
