Hong Kong superstar Jacky Cheung has stopped by many places since kicking off his 60+ Concert Tour on June 9.
He has performed in Macau, Singapore, Wuhan and Guangzhou. However, it is Cheung’s concert in Malaysia that left the biggest impression on him, no thanks to his Meniere’s disease which caused him to tumble on stage mid-song.
According to Mayo Clinic, "Meniere's disease is an inner ear problem that can cause dizzy spells, also called vertigo, and hearing loss".
Describing the Kuala Lumpur gig as the most unforgettable so far, the 62-year-old told Ming Pao: “I feel giddy just thinking about it. I hope I can (recover from the disease) as soon as possible.
“Everyone knows that this ear fluid imbalance has long been an existing problem for me, but this is the first time (I felt dizzy) on stage.”
On the third night of his show at the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil on Aug 13, Cheung gave his fans a scare after falling on stage while performing his hit song Just Want To Spend My Life With You.
According to reports, the God of Songs had been experiencing discomfort prior to his stage appearance but insisted on continuing with the night's show.
When praised for his professionalism and ability to deliver a quality performance despite the incident, Cheung chuckled and said: “I may have an ear fluid imbalance, but my singing voice is fine.”
As for whether he was worried about a repeat of the incident at his upcoming concerts, the singer said he’s confident it won’t happen again as the symptoms – which used to come once a year before – would only come once every three or four years now.
