Beijing authorities have nabbed two individuals for allegedly leaking the medical report of late Hong Kong actress Kathy Chow Hoi Mei, who died at 57 on Dec 11.
The Beijing Shunyi District Police revealed on Thursday (Dec 14) that a 36-year-old male employee, surnamed Fu, took advantage of his position at the Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and leaked Chow’s medical report in a WeChat group with the intention of showing off.
The second suspect was said to be Fu’s friend.
According to Hong Kong news portal Dimsum Daily, the leaked record stated that Chow was admitted to the Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Shunyi district on Dec 11 in an unconscious state.
It added that she had dilated pupils, bleeding conjunctiva, no pulse as well as a cold and stiff body with livor mortis (cadaver spots).
The leaked report also stated that Chow, who was found lying on the floor by her colleagues at 10am, had been facing respiratory difficulties in the past week and was under home oxygen therapy.
In response to the leaked medical report, hospital personnel confirmed it to be true and added that it would look into the matter and release investigation results to the public.
According to the Civil Code of Mainland China, medical institutions and their medical staff are required to keep patients’ privacy and personal medical information confidential.
The act of intentionally disclosing patients’ medical information may result in detention for up to five days or a fine of up to 500 yuan (RM329.66).
In more severe cases, the perpetrator may face three to seven years of imprisonment and fined.
