Taiwanese actress Ruby Lin on 40-year age gap with daughter: 'It makes me cry'

Taiwanese actress Ruby Lin, 47, regrets not having her daughter earlier.

In an episode of Singaporean talk show Hear U Out, Lin said she's concerned about the 40-year age gap with her seven-year-old daughter.

"I think this is the best time (to raise a child) because I'm financially secure and mature. But I also feel like it's too late because we have a 40-year age gap.

"Ever since I had (my daughter), I've been thinking about how I'd be 60 by the time she turns 20. It makes me cry," Lin shared.

The actress continued: "I don't want her to get married at the age of 40 like me. I'll be 80 by then. Will I ever get to see my granddaughter?"

When asked if her daughter would follow her footsteps and join the entertainment industry, Lin said she'll try her best to dissuade her.

"When I started out in this industry, the world was much simpler. Technology wasn't as advanced then. Now, it's easy for people to criticise and cyberbully others online," she said.

Despite spending nearly three decades in the industry, Lin admitted that she still struggles with handling harsh comments, and she can't bear to let her daughter experience the same thing.

She added: "I'd rather she stay a normal person. If she enjoys music, she can play the piano. If she likes dancing, she can be a performer. She doesn't need to enter showbiz."

Although Lin is determined to keep her daughter from pursuing a career in the entertainment industry, she will not stop the latter from doing so if that's what she really wanted.

"If she wants (to join showbiz), that's her life. It's not possible for her to comply with everything (my husband and I) want," she said.

Lin and her husband, Taiwanese actor Wallace Huo, 43, are known for being protective of their daughter.

The couple, who married in 2016, have never disclosed their daughter's name or shown her face on social media.

Earlier in February, Lin aired out her frustrations on Weibo after a photograph of her daughter circulated on the platform. She also posted three angry face emojis on her Instagram account.
