Taiwanese host Bowie Tsang, the daughter of Hong Kong actor Eric Tsang, gave her mum, actress Wang Mei Hua, a huge surprise after purchasing a NT$20mil (RM2.9mil) apartment unit for her.
In a recent Facebook post, Wang shared several photos of her new home and said she’s been happy living there the past few months.
The 67-year-old added that she had spent the past few years looking for a small, cosy home for her retirement but nothing piqued her interest ... until she saw the new development in the opulent Tianmu neighbourhood in Taipei.
“Within five minutes, my daughter and I negotiated the price, and she took out her credit card to pay the deposit,” Wang said.
She continued: “After making the payment, my daughter told me to live here happily and enjoy the retirement life I’ve always wanted.”
According to reports, Wang’s new abode in Taiwan, which she described as a “Muji-style house”, was designed by none other than Bowie, 50.
The actress said the strategic location was her favourite part about the apartment, with many convenience stores, bus stops, as well as a market, hospital and subway station nearby.
In an interview with Hong Kong media, Bowie admitted that she was shocked by the price of luxury homes in Taipei.
When asked if the apartment unit was within her budget, she revealed that she had not set one from the beginning as her mum “knows her limits and won't go too far”.
The monthly loan would take around 20 to 30 years to pay off, Bowie said.
Bowie and her dad Tsang, 70, are known to be good real estate investors.
In 2002, both father and daughter jointly purchased a commercial unit in Mongkok for NT$16.8mil (RM2.5mil) and rented it out.
They sold the property to a consortium for NT$110mil (RM16.4mil) during the pandemic in 2021 and made nearly NT$100mil (RM14.9mil) in profit, according to Sin Chew Daily.
Wang is the ex-wife of Tsang. The pair, who married in 1972 and divorced three years later, have two daughters together.
