Taiwanese actor Kris Shen has been spotted selling chicken at a wet market.
The 32-year-old revealed that he has been in this business since October last year and is operating the stall with his girlfriend as a way to earn some extra money.
His friends who have stalls in market told Shen that they could earn up to TW$120,000 (RM18,000) a month. That gave Shen an idea to start his chicken business. Shen said he earns about TW$20,000 (RM3,000) a month.
His fans have been cheering him on in his new venture. The former child star wrote a length Instagram post to thank his fans for their unwavering support.
"I've been filming since I was 10 years old, and I've been working as an artist for 20 years. I haven't had many opportunities to really work, so I don't have many life skills, besides acting, singing and dancing," he said.
"When life gets difficult, or when we encounter the pandemic and changes in life, we may have to change our lifestyle," he wrote.
Acknowledging public perception, Shen told a Taiwanese media outlet that he wouldn't be surprised if some saw his job at the wet market as a sign of financial hardship.
“I was never born rich. If I was, I wouldn’t have to enter showbiz at the age of 10," he said.
Although acting offers are hard to come by these days, Shen said he is not giving up on showbiz. His last project was the 2022 drama Rally For Love.
Shen is not the only celebrity who has to pivot to another job to support himself.
Hong Kong singer Deep Ng surprised his fans recently when he posted videos of himself working at a construction site.
