In a desire to ensure the works of the late prolific director Mamat Khalid continue to "live", food shop owner Muhammad Asri Mohd Azraie, 23, has named his food shop in Kampung Karai, Perak as "Warung Pak Jabit".
The eatery, used as the filming location of three movies by Mamat Khalid, namely 18 Puasa Di Kampung Pisang, Kampung Pisang Bersiri-Siri and Hantu Kak Limah, is now "alive” with Muhammad Asri reopening it for business.
He reopened the shop, previously operated by his father, about a year ago.
"The food shop, built on my father’s land, was run by the family from 2004 to 2008 when it was rented out to someone else, But due to some problems, it was abandoned.
"It was in 2018 that someone from a film production wanted to rent it to be a filming location and named it Warung Pak Jabit as was the name of the stall in the movie,” he said when met at the stall recently.
Muhammad Asri said his family decided to maintain the stall and reopen it for business because many visitors and fans of Mamat Khalid still looked for the stall when they were in the area.
The stall went viral on social media recently.
He said business at the food stall was brisk, attributing it to the popularity of the films as well as the character of Pak Jabit in the movie.
Muhammad Asri said he runs the food shop with his three siblings and the menu includes "Mi Kari Kuah Laksa” as sold in Warung Pak jabit in the movie. Customers can also request sate, cendol, laksa and curry mee.
"Apart from the locals, we also have customers from outside the state, including Selangor and Johor,” he added.
He said the shop is open from Saturday to Thursday from 4pm to midnight. – Bernama
