Singer Datuk Awie recently revealed that he was diagnosed with kidney cancer several years ago.
While sharing this on a radio show, the 55-year-old expressed gratitude because the disease was detected early and successfully removed through surgery.
"I had a problem with my kidneys; there was a tumour and the doctor confirmed that it was cancer. But Alhamdulillah, it was detected early."
Awie added that it took him four months before agreeing to the surgery.
"I have already removed the tumour ..."
Recalling the first time he was told of the diagnosis, Awie said: "The doctor who examined me said that one of my kidneys needed to be removed.
"When I heard him say that, I felt like 'my time' was up."
Despite the grave situation, Awie wasn't sure if he wanted to undergo surgery to remove his kidney.
The doctor treating him then advised the artiste to consult with a specialist doctor for a second opinion.
"There, the specialist doctor informed me that my chances of having cancer were 95%," he explained.
After four months of treatment at the hospital, Awie finally agreed to undergo surgery to remove the tumour after being persuaded by his wife.
"Alhamdulillah, the surgery was successful and the 2.7cm tumour was successfully removed from my kidney," he said.
