Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh took to social media to explain an awkward moment that was witnessed by many during the Academy Awards telecast yesterday.

The Oscar-winning actress was on hand to present the Best Actress trophy at the awards ceremony which was held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Joining Yeoh on stage were past Best Actress Oscar winners such as Jessica Lange, Sally Field, Charlize Theron and Jennifer Lawrence.

The ladies took turns to introduce this years' nominees before Yeoh eventually named Emma Stone as the winner.

However, when Stone went on stage to accept the golden statuette from Yeoh, the Ipoh-born actress handed the award to Lawrence instead, who then gave it to Stone.

Awkward! What gives?

The Everything Everywhere All At Once star took to social media to clarify.

“Congratulations Emma. I confused you, but I wanted to share that glorious moment of handing over Oscar to you together with your best friend Jennifer,” the 61-year-old actress, who wore Balenciaga to the Oscars, said on social media.

“She reminded me of my bae Jamie Lee Curtis – always there for each other," she added.

Yeoh was referring to her pal and Everything Everywhere All At Once co-star Curtis who also won an Oscar last year in the supporting category.

According to People magazine, Lawrence and Stone are long-time friends who met through actor Woody Harrelson.
