Within the 24 hours since Kate Middleton announced her cancer diagnosis, Kim Kardashian has faced a torrent of backlash for not removing a previous post making light of the recent speculation surrounding the royal.
Like much of the Internet in recent weeks, the reality star, 43, contributed to the jokes and conspiracy theories musing on Middleton’s whereabouts amid her recovery from abdominal surgery in January.
On March 16, Kardashian took to Instagram to post a carousel of photos, flippantly captioned, “On my way to go find Kate.”
But after Middleton revealed to the world on Friday (March 22) that the reason she’s been out of the public eye is not anything salacious but, in fact, cancer – and chemotherapy – people have been taking Kardashian to task for not yet removing the post, let alone apologising to the princess.
“She’s having cancer treatment... this didn’t age well,” one user commented, with more than 8,000 others liking it in agreement.
“After the news of her having cancer has been revealed, you should really take this down,” said another. “It’s extremely insensitive and you owe our princess an apology.”
One British user meanwhile requested the SKIMS founder “respectfully never come (to) the UK again.”
Another asked how Kardashian she felt “being trolled and made fun of after (she) got robbed in Paris” – referring to Kardashian being held at gunpoint in 2016, and the jokes that followed online and late-night talk shows.
On Friday, actress Blake Lively issued an apology following news of Middleton’s diagnosis, having previously “made a silly post around the ‘Photoshop fails’ frenzy.”
“Oh man, that post has me mortified today,” she wrote. “I’m sorry. Sending love and well wishes to all, always.” – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
