How deep is Hong Kong pop diva Kelly Chen’s love for durians? Enough to fill her luggage with the fruit it seems!
At her concert in Genting Highlands last Friday (March 29), Chen, 51, said she first tried the Musang King during a visit to Malaysia several years back and fell in love with it.
Hoping to enjoy some of it back in Hong Kong, the Cantopop star and her entourage decided to load their luggage with the fruit.
When they arrived at the airport, however, they were stopped by the staff there.
“It was then I learned that durians aren’t allowed on flights,” Chen said.
Not wanting to let the durians go to waste, the singer and her entourage rushed outside the airport to eat the durians there.
“I know now that (durians) can actually be vacuum-packed,” she added before jokingly asking the audience to buy some for her.
And it seems like the fans did heed her words.
On Tuesday (April 2), Chen uploaded a photo of herself posing with a durian cake.
In her Instagram post, the Wind, Flower, Snow singer wrote: "Thanks to the Malaysian fans for the cake. A huge thanks also to the band members, dancers and staff backstage. You have all worked hard."
Hailed as the “Diva of Asia”, Chen has enjoyed great success since kickstarting her career in 1995.
She was the highest paid female Hong Kong celebrity of 2014, earning HK$83mil (RM18.2mil), according to Oriental Daily News.
