With over 40 years of experience in the entertainment scene, award-winning actor Francis Ng is one of Hong Kong’s most prominent movie stars.

Despite his accolades, which include a Golden Horse Award for Best Actor, there are still instances where people may need to do a double take before recognising him.

An ice cream stall owner in Penang recently posted on Xiaohongshu that they had a chance encounter with Ng, 62, when the Hong Kong star bought ice cream from their shop.

At the time, however, the owner failed to recognise him.

It wasn’t until a female fan snapped a photo of Ng and inquired about the flavour he ordered did the owner realise their missed opportunity for a photo with the actor.

In an accompanying photo, Ng – dressed casually in a beige tee, black cap and plaid pants – can be seen enjoying his ice cream.

“Thank you to the beautiful fan for this photo. Luckily, I can still see (Ng) in the picture, which somewhat comforts me,” the owner said before praising Ng’s humble demeanour.

Ng is believed to be filming a show in Penang.

Earlier in February, the actor was spotted filming alongside Taiwanese actress Janine Chang and Chinese singer Justin Huang in Penang.

Ng was also seen outside a bakery in George Town and other places around Penang last month.

This isn’t Ng’s first time filming in the state.

The actor previously came to Penang in 2017 to shoot Herman Yau’s The Leakers (2018), in which he played a Malaysian cop.
