Hong Kong superstar Chow Yun Fat has always been open about his fondness for fellow actress Carol Cheng and has even regarded her as his "best partner".

The pair played love interests in several TVB dramas such as The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly (1979), The Brothers (1980) and The Fate (1981). Their strong chemistry earned them the nickname "the golden couple".

In a recent interview with Hong Kong actress Carina Lau, Cheng, 66, revealed that Chow, 68, used to carry a photo of them together in his wallet.

When asked by Lau if she ever harboured feelings for Chow, the former TVB star immediately responded "no".

According to Cheng, they both knew the importance of the dramas they were starring in, and the only reason Chow even kept a photo of them together was so he could get into character.

"Chow Yun Fat is very into his characters. Whenever he opened (his wallet), he would see (the photo of) both of us and get into character," she said.

"He wasn't in love with me. We were just drama partners!" Cheng added.

In a 2018 interview, Chow said Cheng was one of his most memorable co-stars.

The God Of Gamblers (1989) actor spent nearly two years filming with her almost every day at TVB, according to a news portal.

"Every day, whenever I opened my eyes, the first person I'd see is Carol. She was my friend, girlfriend and wife," he said.
