Malaysian supermodel Amber Chia made headlines in March when she announced that she had split from businessman Adrian Wong and has been single for two-and-a-half years now.

Chia married Wong in 2010, and they share a 13-year-old son, Ashton.

In a recent interview with China Press, Chia, 42, disclosed that she and Wong never officially registered their marriage.

This was because it took her sister nearly 10 years to settle divorce procedures, and she didn't want to go through the same hassle.

The model further revealed that she and Wong quarreled often due to conflicting opinions on many things, including their son's education.

"(Before we separated), we hadn't had a normal conversation at home for a long time. We had so many arguments and our feelings naturally faded.

"There was even a period where it got so bad to the point we didn't want to see or speak to each other.

"Every time we spoke, it led to arguments. This lasted for about three to four years," she said.

The strained marriage took a toll on Chia, Wong and their son.

Chia told China Press that although her son would comfort her whenever she argued with Wong, he opposed their separation.

"I explained to him repeatedly that no matter what happens, he will always be our son and we will love him unconditionally. If he wants to see or live with anyone, we will respect his decision. In the end, he accepted (our split)," she said.

Chia added that she couldn't let the marriage continue as it would be unfair to her and Wong. After careful consideration and discussion, the pair mutually agreed to separate.

"If this (relationship) were to continue, I will regret it in the future. I believe we should give each other a chance. We might find a partner who's more suitable," she said.

Although the two have parted ways, Chia reiterated that she and Wong are good friends, with the latter even extending her an invitation to his 50th birthday party.
