Taiwan-based Malaysian singer Freya Lim recently returned to her late father's hometown in Penang to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival with her extended family, and she is making the most of her holiday here.
In a recent Instagram post, Lim shared photos of the delicacies she savoured during her stay – including satay, prawn noodles and Nyonya cuisine.
She also played tourist with her Taiwanese mother at various hotspots like the Chayamangkalaram Thai Buddhist temple, Pinang Peranakan Mansion, Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion and Lee Jetty.
"Returning to dad's hometown filled with sunshine and delicious food! Missing Penang," the 44-year-old captioned her post.
In a separate Instagram post, Lim – who is a permanent resident of Taiwan – shared a video showing her song being played near the Lee Jetty in George Town.
"Is this Penang's way of welcoming me? Some random old radio playing my song while we're visiting the Lee Jetty in Penang. What a surprise," wrote the Crossroads singer.
Lim's singing talent was first discovered in 1999 by music producer Benjamin Lin, who happened to hear her perform Mandopop singer Sandy Lam's Night's Too Dark at a karaoke joint.
In 2000, Lim released her debut album Freya, which sold over 120,000 copies in Taiwan and occupied music charts there for more than six months.
The album also earned her a Best Newcomer award at the 2001 Singapore Hit Awards and a nomination at the 2001 Golden Melody Awards.
