A family vacation turned sour for singer-actress Sharifah Zarina when her husband had to be rushed to a hospital's emergency unit in Penang after consuming durian on Sunday (July 7).
The 42-year-old artiste first took to Instagram to share the incident.
She had posted a video showing herself eating durian, followed by a clip of her at the hospital with her husband lying on a bed.
When contacted by mStar – The Star's Malay-language portal – on Monday, Zarina said she began to sense something was wrong when her husband, Buswani Abdillah, groaned in pain and his face turned pale soon after eating the fruit.
After being checked by the doctor, she was relieved to hear that the cause of her husband's condition was due to excessive gas in his stomach.
"We ate durian at a farm in Penang. My husband complained of stomach pain and kept going in and out of the bathroom," Zarina said.
"I started to worry when I saw him groaning in pain, bent over and not moving with a pale face... So I immediately took him to the nearest hospital."
"It turns out the doctor said the cause of his stomach ache was due to excessive gas in his stomach from the durian," she said.
Sharing further about her husband's current condition, Zarina said Buswani is recovering after receiving treatment. The family returned to Kuala Lumpur after her husband was treated for three hours in the hospital.
"The doctor said his condition wasn't severe ... After the treatment, we immediately returned to Kuala Lumpur,” she said.
Zarina admitted she was worried seeing her husband's condition but was also puzzled why this happened as the family had consumed only three durians.
"We ate just three durians, my children and I were fine. My husband has never experienced something like this before even though he had consumed more durians previously than what he ate yesterday. We don't know why it happened this time," she shared.
