Justin Bieber became the latest celeb to perform during the pre-wedding festivities of the youngest son of India’s richest man.
Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant are set to wed this weekend in three days of ceremony. But the lead-in has been months in the making, including a three-day mega bash in March that was attended by Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Bollywood A-listers and 1,200 other guests who were treated to a performance by Rihanna, according to CNN.
A four-day cruise in May featured Katy Perry, The Backstreet Boys and renowned Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, according to BBC News.
Bieber posted snippets of his performance on Instagram, showing him leading the crowd in song.
Billionaire industrialist Mukesh Ambani and his wife, Nita Ambani, have also woven charity into the festivities for their son’s nuptials. They organised a mass wedding for more than 50 underprivileged couples as part of the celebrations. The March pre-wedding celebration included putting together a community food service for 51,000 people residing in nearby villages.
The family is no stranger to extravagant nuptials. Beyonce performed at the wedding of Ambani’s daughter Isha in 2018, a bash attended by former secretaries of state Hillary Clinton and John Kerry, as well as Arianna Huffington and other high-profile luminaries.
Mukesh Ambani heads the conglomerate Reliance Industries, whose holdings include petrochemicals, oil and gas, telecoms and retail. His US$116bil net worth makes him the richest man in Asia. Merchant’s parents are Viren Merchant, CEO of Encore Healthcare Pvt Ltd, and entrepreneur Shaila Merchant.
