Taiwanese singer David Tao celebrates 55th birthday onstage with wife and son

Taiwanese singer David Tao had several surprises during his ongoing Soul Power II concert tour in China.

Tao, who turned 55 on July 11, held three sold-out shows in Nanjing from July 12 to 14.

“I woke up this morning feeling tired and not in the mood for my birthday,” he wrote in Chinese on social media on July 11. “Then came the first surprise: When I stepped into the dining room for lunch, I saw many friends who came from far away to celebrate my birthday.”

Tao said the second surprise was while he was rehearsing for his upcoming concerts at the stadium in Nanjing.

“The musicians stopped performing while we were rehearsing for the song Love Can... and the big screen showed a video of the song performed by my colleagues and tour partners,” Tao wrote. “I was so moved that I almost shed tears, but everyone’s smiles gave me the energy to be strong.”

According to Taiwanese media, Tao’s wife Penny Chiang and their five-year-old son Bonbon also made a surprise appearance onstage when they rolled out three birthday cakes and a gift for him – a microphone.

Tao posted photos of both birthday celebrations, including two photos of Chiang and Bonbon, and the birthday gift.

The singer wed Chiang, who is 16 years his junior, in 2014. The family has seldom appeared together onstage and, in these photos, the eyes of Tao’s son were covered with emojis.

“It is really meaningful to spend this birthday with everyone in my home town of Nanjing,” Tao wrote. “Thank you to my family, friends and team who have always been by my side, as well as my fans and friends who have always supported me.” – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
