Despite feeling upset about his divorce from Dr Jezamine Lim, Malaysian comedian Harith Iskander has accepted the decision as previous efforts to save their marriage were unsuccessful.
The pair ended their longtime marriage at the Federal Territories Syariah Lower Court on Thursday (July 25) due to irreconcilable differences.
In an interview with Harian Metro following the proceedings, Harith expressed gratitude that he and Jezamine, 41, remain on good terms despite their separation.
"We have reached this stage in a good way and remain friends for the sake of our children.
"Of course, I felt sad while pronouncing the talak, but I kept my feelings private. We have both agreed to move forward in life," the 57-year-old said.
Harith added that no marriage is without its challenges, and it depends on the efforts each couple makes to solve their problems. In his case, divorce was "the only resolution".
"We have tried to save this marriage for a long time. We have done everything we can but separating was the next step to take," he said.
During the interview, Harith expressed relief that his divorce from Jezamine did not significantly affect their three children's emotional state.
The comedian also said he will maintain a professional relationship with Jezamine, who is his manager.
"We will continue working like usual. We have a company to manage. It's just that we are no longer husband and wife," he added.
Regarding the possibility of reconciliation in the future, Harith said he would leave it up to fate.
"Everything is in Allah's hands. Before my marriage, I never knew I'd be married (one) day. Maybe one day, if we are destined to be together, then Insya-Allah," he said.
For the record, Jezamine filed for divorce from Harith on June 25.
The former couple, who married on June 12, 2010, share three children, aged between 14 and nine.
