On July 26, Hong Kong actress Xenia Chong Wan Ching announced that she has filed for a divorce from her non-celebrity husband Joe.

At the time, Chong accused Joe of being emotionally and verbally abusive, but it seems like she has more to say about her troubled marriage.

In a recent interview with HK01, Chong recounted being drawn to Joe after he showed kindness by removing a dead cat from the road.

The actress admitted she was unaware she was stepping into a trap and now feels betrayed.

“I married a conman, not a husband. Why did I marry him? I must have been blind. I really thought he was (caring). What an idiot, I’m really a fool,” the 42-year-old lamented.

Despite being married for four years, Chong said she had never met her in-laws.

The Love At First Lie star also disclosed that she had entrusted Joe with control over her company’s funds but was stunned to discover that a substantial portion had been depleted.

“The account was under my name. It had seven figures, and (Joe) managed all of it because he claimed to be a financial planner.

“When I asked him to return the money before he went to Taiwan, I was shocked to find only HK$20,000 left,” she said.

When asked if she knew where the money had gone, Chong replied in the negative but noted that some of the amount was used for household expenses.

The actress then went on to slam Joe for failing to care for their three-year-old son.

“He didn’t do much housework and barely took care of our son. If you have nothing to do and can’t even take care of your own child, what are you doing? He’s your son too!” she exclaimed.

Chong also expressed frustration over Joe’s constant excuses for not seeking employment.

According to Hong Kong media, his reputation has been tarnished by negative reports of bankruptcy, unemployment and debts since his marriage to Chong became public in 2020.

“He would claim he’s too busy settling his own matters, but I would see him scrolling on his phone ...,” she said.

Chong tied the knot with Joe in November 2020 and welcomed a son together in March 2021.

The actress previously dated singer Steven Cheung, but the relationship didn’t work out.
